Establishing biological relationships is a matter that requires absolute scientific precision and strict legal compliance. At SynMedCare, our Legal Paternity Tests go far beyond the scope of over-the-counter home kits, analyzing up to 21 distinct genetic markers to conclusively determine paternity in 99.9% of cases.
The Science Behind the Swab
Every child inherits 50% of their DNA from their biological mother and 50% from their biological father. During a paternity test, a painless buccal (cheek) swab is used to collect epithelial cells from the inside of the cheek. In the laboratory, geneticists extract the DNA and amplify specific regions known as Short Tandem Repeats (STRs). By comparing these STR markers between the child, the alleged father, and ideally the mother, our CAP-accredited partner laboratories can definitively confirm or exclude biological relation.
What Makes a Test "Court-Admissible"?
A common misconception is that a drugstore DNA kit can be used in court. It cannot. For a DNA test to be legally admissible for child support, custody battles, inheritance claims, or immigration (USCIS) purposes, it must follow a strict Chain of Custody. This legal framework requires:
- Impartial Collection: The DNA sample must be collected by a neutral third-party medical professional (like our SynMedCare phlebotomists).
- Identity Verification: All participants must present government-issued ID, be photographed, and be fingerprinted at the time of collection.
- Secure Transport: Samples must be sealed with tamper-evident tape and tracked every step of the way to the testing facility.
Choosing SynMedCare means choosing peace of mind. Our rigorous Chain of Custody protocols ensure that your results will hold up in any court of law, providing undeniable clarity when it matters most.
